Several Middle Eastern countries are holding safety drills, building up food reserves and raising military readiness as US-Iran talks fail to produce a breakthrough and Iranian attacks on shipping strain supply chains, The National reports. Qatar, which has been hit repeatedly by Iran during the war, staged a full-scale emergency exercise at Hamad International Airport.
Security sources in Cairo told the paper that Egypt's armed forces were on high alert, with air defences strengthened along the Red Sea coast and the Suez Canal. Egypt says it holds six months of essential food reserves and has recently bought five cargoes of wheat. Israel's army is running a multi-front search-and-rescue exercise this week, and Jordan held a joint military and security drill last month. The paper says President Donald Trump's threats to resume attacks have added to the uncertainty.
