Nigeria's vice president, Kashim Shettima, urged a group of Fulani men working as security guards in Maiduguri to enrol their children in schools built by the Borno State government, Premium Times reports.
Mr Shettima was in the city on Friday to commission new projects, among them a teaching hospital with 400 beds and a large new school. In a video seen by the newspaper, he greeted the guards, whom he described as old acquaintances, joked with them and gave them a cash gift, while asking why they were not using the schools the governor had built.
When the men said they were still looking for a suitable school, he pointed them to one nearby, and Governor Babagana Zulum promised the state would help them overcome any obstacles. Mr Shettima later shared the encounter on Facebook.
