The Tamil Nadu government has approved a scheme giving vulnerable rural households 25 more days of paid work a year on top of the national guarantee, The Hindu reports.
Under the national rural jobs programme, known as VB-G RAM G, registered rural households are guaranteed 125 days of unskilled manual work a year, funded jointly by the central and state governments. The state's "Vetri 150" scheme will use state money to extend this to 150 days for eligible families once they complete the first 125.
Households headed by women, single women, families with disabled members, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe households and forest-rights beneficiaries qualify. The state has set aside ₹100 crore for 2026-27. The pledge was in the manifesto of the TVK party, which leads the state government, and was announced in its first Budget in August.
