Rescuers have recovered the bodies of a man and a woman on the Kedartal trekking route in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district, where eight people went missing after an avalanche, The Hindu reports. The group of missing people included two trekkers from Uttar Pradesh, five from West Bengal and a guide. The search for the other six resumes on Wednesday.
The party of seven trekkers and six support staff set out from Gangotri on 27 October but was caught by heavy snow, and five people were later found safe. Teams from state and national disaster response forces and the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering are working at about 4,000 metres in blizzards. The authorities have suspended permits for treks at 4,000 metres and above, closed the Gaumukh-Tapovan route and stopped issuing permits for Kedartal, Kalindi Khal and Udankol.
