Lowestoft's annual Armed Forces Day has been saved after residents, veterans and serving personnel answered an appeal for new volunteers, GB News reports.
Earlier this month organisers in the Suffolk seaside town warned the event could not continue unless people took on committee posts, including chair, secretary and treasurer. They now say they have been overwhelmed by the response and expect the day to go ahead in 2027 and beyond.
The event has had a difficult few years. It was cancelled in 2019, missed the pandemic years, returned in 2022 and 2023, then was shelved in 2024 and 2025 because of a lack of volunteers and money. It came back this June at Sparrow's Nest Gardens, sponsored by the town council. An open evening for would-be helpers is planned for 17 November at the Kitchener's Centre on Kirkley Cliff.
