Nvidia, Anthropic and OpenAI each spent more on US federal lobbying between July and September than in any previous quarter, according to disclosures reviewed by The Verge.
Nvidia spent $2.2m, Anthropic $2.1m and OpenAI $1.5m, nearly $6m between them. The Verge notes that is not unusual by Big Tech standards, with Google regularly above $3m a quarter, but says it shows how much the AI firms now invest in shaping policy.
Anthropic listed child online safety, export controls and a bill to make data centre developers bear their energy costs among its issues. OpenAI lobbied on cybersecurity testing of frontier models, AI safety oversight and copyright. Nvidia's topics included export controls, competition policy and quantum computing. Apple also had a record quarter, spending $3.1m.
