Former NBA player Malik Beasley is negotiating a plea deal with the US Justice Department over charges that he manipulated his performance in games to benefit gamblers, his lawyer told the Associated Press, in a report carried by CBS News.
Beasley, 29, pleaded not guilty in New York federal court in July. Prosecutors accuse him of trying to fix his play in at least four Milwaukee Bucks games in 2024 in return for bribes and the reduction of debts he owed to former player Ed Davis, a co-defendant. He faces charges including wire fraud conspiracy, bribery in sporting contests and money laundering conspiracy.
His lawyer, Steve Haney, said a direction was expected in the coming days. The case is part of a wide federal gambling inquiry that has led to more than three dozen arrests. Beasley last played for the Detroit Pistons in the 2024-25 season.
