The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) says about four in five of its candidates for the 2027 elections could not pay for the party's expression of interest forms, Premium Times reports.
In a statement on Saturday, party spokesperson Osa Director blamed widespread hunger and poverty, which he attributed to the policies of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He said the NDC had given those candidates forms free of charge, which had weakened its finances, but he did not name them.
Mr Director said the party's national treasurer, John Odey, would present its statement of accounts on Monday at a National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja, and he challenged the APC to be equally open. The meeting is also due to launch the NDC's national campaign council.
