The Saskatchewan Roughriders beat the Edmonton Elks 16-9 in Regina on Saturday to secure third place in the CFL's West Division and a semi-final against the B.C. Lions, Global News reports, citing The Canadian Press.
Edmonton led early through a short touchdown run by quarterback Cole Snyder, but the defending Grey Cup champions replied with 16 straight points. Quarterback Tommy Stevens scored two one-yard rushing touchdowns, taking his season total to 17 and breaking the league record for rushing touchdowns in a single season, previously held by Caleb Evans.
Strong winds made kicking difficult and both sides were heavily penalised. The Riders, now 10-8, travel to face the Lions on 31 October, while Winnipeg cross over to play Toronto in the East. The first-placed Elks will host the West final in Edmonton on 7 November.
