Norwegian cyclist Magnus Kulset has set a new world record for Everesting, a challenge in which riders climb the height of Mount Everest, 8,849 metres, in a single session, NRK reports.
Riding on an indoor trainer in his parents' basement in Røa, Oslo, Kulset reached 8,867 metres of climbing in 4 hours and 53 minutes, repeatedly tackling a 2.2km segment with a gradient of 9.5 per cent. His previous record was about 5 hours and 29 minutes.
Kulset, who was not offered a new contract by the Uno-X team before this season, told the broadcaster he felt completely drained afterwards and played down the feat, calling Everesting a specialised niche. His former team-mate Jonas Abrahamsen described the ride as hugely impressive.
