At least one person has been killed and several injured in clashes between two communities in Thoubal district of India's Manipur state, police told The Hindu on Monday.
Police said trouble began on Sunday night when stones were thrown towards a ground in Khangabok village, about 25km south of Imphal, where a concert was being held. Stone-throwing spread between residents of Khangabok and Sangaiyumpham, and several houses and vehicles were set on fire. A man identified as Laishram Rakesh died in hospital after being shot in the head by unidentified attackers, and others were treated for cuts. The district magistrate ordered people in both areas to stay indoors, with no end date given. Extra state and central forces were sent in, and police said the situation was under control by Monday morning.
