A drone strike near a market in the town of al-Dibab in Sudan's West Kordofan state killed 80 people on Sunday evening, most of them travellers waiting for transport home, The Guardian reports, citing a witness and a medical source.
The witness said the drone hit a transport hub twice, ten minutes apart. He said he helped bury 50 bodies, while a medic said 30 of the 47 injured people taken to the nearby town of al-Mujlad later died.
It is among the deadliest single attacks since war broke out in April 2023 between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, which controls the state. The RSF-backed administration blamed the army. Drone strikes accounted for at least 880 civilian deaths between January and April, more than 80% of the total, and a UN official warned last week that the crisis was worsening.
