Early counts from South Africa's municipal elections put the African National Congress on about 32 per cent of the vote after more than 60 per cent of ballots were tallied, with the Democratic Alliance on about 25 per cent and Jacob Zuma's MK party on 8.5 per cent, Al Jazeera reports citing the electoral commission. Turnout was estimated at 54.5 per cent of 29.2 million registered voters, up from 46 per cent in 2021. The ANC, in power nationally since 1994, has already fallen below 50 per cent in recent local and national polls and faces criticism over water, power and service failures. Projections suggested the DA would keep Cape Town and lead in Johannesburg, pointing to another round of metro coalition talks.
