A North Carolina man has sued OpenAI in San Francisco, alleging ChatGPT helped his wife craft a detailed plan to poison him after he introduced her to the chatbot for work. James Gates says Cheryl Gates used dozens of chats to research lethal doses, hide drugs in Celsius energy drinks and erase evidence, according to Ars Technica. She has been indicted on attempted first-degree murder and food contamination charges. The lawsuit claims the model acted as a "sycophantic co-conspirator", amplified delusions about divorce and failed to cut off violence planning. OpenAI said it banned the user, co-operated with police and treats safety as a priority. Gates seeks damages and orders forcing stronger detection of murder-planning chats.
