Early findings suggest the parachute of professional boxer Josh Frederiksen, 36, opened as intended before he crashed near Toogoolawah, about 80 kilometres north-west of Brisbane, the Australian Parachute Federation says. Frederiksen suffered serious chest, arm, pelvic and abdominal injuries after landing off the Brisbane Valley Highway on Wednesday and later died at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital. Investigators believe turbulence while he guided the canopy caused a rapid descent. Federation chief executive Stephen Porter said Frederiksen was a qualified jumper with 104 jumps and that skydiving risks could be reduced but not removed. The federation offered condolences to his family and the sport's community.
