Australia has revealed three payloads, kept secret until now, for the Ghost Shark uncrewed submarine, Euronews reports. Speaking in Sydney on Monday, Defence Industry Minister Pat Conroy said the autonomous vessel would be able to lay sea mines, drop supply caches and release Altius aerial drones.
The caches would hold equipment developed by Australia's Defence Science and Technology Group and are intended to support possible special forces operations. The Altius drones can carry out surveillance and reconnaissance and can also be used to strike targets. Conroy said the new capabilities would broaden the role of the Ghost Shark and strengthen Australia's undersea warfare capability.
