Democrats use Iran war votes against Republicans in midterm ads

·

Democrats and allied groups are making Republicans' votes on the Iran war a central theme of midterm campaign adverts, often tying the conflict to higher petrol and grocery prices, according to an Associated Press analysis published by PBS NewsHour.

The analysis of AdImpact data covered broadcast and cable ads shown from 1 September to 14 October in the 50 most competitive House and Senate races. At least half featured Iran-related ads, which aired more than 43,000 times at an estimated cost of $42 million. Of 65 distinct ads, 61 focused on the cost of living.

The ads build on war powers resolutions Democrats repeatedly forced to a vote this year. Some target Republican candidates who have never sat in Congress. Republicans are largely leaving the war out of their own advertising.
