Democrats will take control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate after Tuesday's midterm elections, CBS News projects, in a major setback for President Donald Trump. The party won Senate seats in Texas and Kansas for the first time in decades, with James Talarico defeating Ken Paxton in Texas and Adam Hamilton winning in Kansas, and also flipped seats in Ohio, Iowa, North Carolina, South Carolina and Maine, where Susan Collins lost.
Races in Alaska, Mississippi and Nebraska were still too close to call. Exit polls suggested Trump was on course for the lowest approval rating recorded for a president at a midterm, at 38%. In a call with CBS News, Trump congratulated Democrats and said he would work with them, though he also insisted Republicans would have won in a landslide had he been on the ballot.
