Eight members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly in Nigeria who recently quit the governing All Progressives Congress say they are rejoining it after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja, AllAfrica reports. The group, taken to the talks by the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, had been widely expected to defect to the African Democratic Congress.
They had cited party infighting, insecurity in rural Zamfara and unpaid allowances, and were suspended by the assembly leadership after trying to remove the Speaker. They now say their grievances are being dealt with, although one of them has already been screened to stand for the assembly under the ADC ahead of the 2027 elections.
