The City of Espoo will cut 140 posts over the next three years after restructuring talks with staff ended without agreement, Yle News reports.
Eighty employees face redundancy and a further 60 roles will be phased out by 2029, partly by not replacing retirees. The city said some losses may be avoided if workers can be redeployed. Talks that began in August aimed to trim about €10 million a year in personnel costs, putting roughly 300 full-time posts at risk among some 3,000 staff outside schools and daycare centres.
Critics note Espoo's finances currently show a surplus, but Mayor Kai Mykkänen has pointed to rising city debt. Nearby Vantaa last week announced 122 redundancies, with 81 further staff offered other roles.
