Man found dead in Queensland creek as days of rain flood south and east

·

A man has been found dead in floodwater on Queensland's Fraser Coast after days of heavy rain across the state, The Guardian reports.

Police said he was found unresponsive in Smothering Creek at Boompa late on Monday morning, and a report is being prepared for the coroner. Elsewhere, swiftwater crews rescued five campers stranded by floodwater at a campground in Leyburn on the Southern Downs.

Rain from Thursday to Monday flooded rivers and roads across the south and east of the state. Blackdown Tableland near Rockhampton recorded more than 439mm over four days. Flood warnings remain in place for several rivers, including the Bremer, Mary, Macintyre and Moonie, and forecasters expect more rain.
