Norway issued more than 5,000 deportation orders in 2025, UDI figures show

·

Norway issued deportation orders to 5,002 foreign nationals in 2025, more than four times the 1,210 recorded in 2021, according to immigration directorate (UDI) figures reported by The Local Norway.

About 82% of the orders were for breaches of immigration law, such as overstaying a visa or working without a permit, while 368 followed criminal convictions. An order carries an entry ban that can extend to the whole Schengen area.

Indian nationals received the most orders, with 949, followed by Pakistanis with 918, then Bangladeshis and Nigerians. European citizens accounted for 500 cases, led by Romanians. Of the 62 Britons ordered to leave, 35 had criminal convictions, making the UK the largest single source of deported offenders last year, ahead of Ukraine and China.
