An Indian woman being flown by air ambulance from Agartala to Kolkata died on Sunday after the aircraft diverted to Bangladesh with a door fault, The Hindu reports, citing Bangladeshi media.

The Beechcraft King Air developed the problem while climbing through about 12,000 feet, when its door partly opened, according to Bangladesh's state news agency BSS. It landed safely at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport with seven people on board.

The patient, 56-year-old Anjana Bhowmik, was taken to a hospital in Dhaka, where she was declared dead. It is not known whether her death was linked to the fault or to her illness. Bangladeshi authorities allowed the landing on humanitarian grounds without the usual clearance, and India's High Commission helped with the formalities.
