A 62-year-old woman died after being hit by an SUV while crossing Muldoon Road in east Anchorage on Friday night, police said, the Anchorage Daily News reports. The Anchorage Police Department named her as Bertha Nesbit. She was struck by a Ford Escape at about 10pm on a stretch between Duben and Peck avenues.
Police said the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with officers, and that no charges had been filed as of Saturday afternoon. Northbound lanes on Muldoon Road were shut for close to five hours after the collision, according to public alerts. Nesbit is the eighth pedestrian killed on Anchorage roads so far this year.
