RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat warns protests must not divide Indian society

·

Mohan Bhagwat, head of the Hindu nationalist Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), has warned against politically motivated agitations that divide society, The Hindu reports.

In his annual Vijayadashami address in Nagpur, which also marks the organisation's foundation day, Mr Bhagwat said protests were a natural result of social problems and failings in administration, but should seek solutions rather than deepen hostility. He urged protesters, authorities and politicians alike to stay within the law and the constitution and not to let electoral gain or popularity cloud their judgement.

He said problems could also be solved through dialogue and community action, not only by government or agitation. He warned that when protests become political tools, outside forces seeking to keep India weak could exploit the unrest. His remarks came as India sees both political and youth-led protests.
