A Ukrainian investigative outlet, Slidstvo.info, says it has identified Russian officers involved in the blockade of occupied Oleshky in the Kherson region, the Kyiv Independent reports.
Its latest report, published on Thursday, places the 217th Guards Airborne Regiment and its commander, Colonel Georgy Yanchev, in the area, adding to units named in a September investigation. Russian forces are accused of stopping humanitarian aid reaching the town, which sits across the Dnipro from Kherson, while drones target civilians trying to leave.
About 2,000 residents are thought to remain, facing severe shortages of food, water, medicine and electricity. Pope Leo XIV raised the town's plight with Vladimir Putin last week, and Ukraine's human rights ombudsman said on 18 October that the two sides were close to agreeing details of an evacuation.
