France's trade minister says a joint push by Paris and Berlin for a tougher EU stance on China helped persuade Beijing to rein in its exports of hybrid cars, the South China Morning Post reports.
Nicolas Forissier, arriving for a meeting of EU trade ministers in Dublin on Friday, said he was certain the pressure had played a role and urged the bloc to hold its course, despite Chinese warnings of retaliation and Beijing's insistence that the pressure had not worked.
Germany reversed its China policy earlier this month, joining France, which has long favoured a more protectionist approach, in calling for tariffs, quotas and stronger trade defence tools against what Paris sees as distortions caused by China's economic model.
