Judge orders Trump to give evidence under oath in his $10bn defamation lawsuit

·

A federal judge has ruled that President Donald Trump must answer questions under oath in his $10bn defamation lawsuit against a British broadcaster, Al Jazeera reports.

Judge Enjolique Lett ordered Trump to sit for questioning by the defence's lawyers by 11 December and warned that failing to co-operate could lead to sanctions, including dismissal of the case. She refused his lawyers' request to delay the deposition until January and to stop it being filmed, although access to the recording will at first be limited to lawyers in the case. Trump was also given 30 days to hand over requested documents.

The suit, filed in Florida in December 2025, concerns a documentary edit of a speech Trump gave before the 6 January 2021 Capitol attack. The broadcaster has apologised for the edit but disputes the claim.
