A High Court in Abuja has thrown out seven statements the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission sought to use in its N33.2bn fraud case against former national security adviser Sambo Dasuki, Premium Times reports.
The statements were attributed to his co-defendant, the former NNPC executive Aminu Baba-Kusa, and were taken while he was in EFCC custody in 2015. Judge Charles Agbaza ruled after an eight-month trial-within-a-trial that the commission had not shown they were obtained in line with the Administration of Criminal Justice Act. It is not yet clear how important they are to the prosecution.
The two men deny diverting arms and security funds from the national security adviser's office. The case has dragged on for more than a decade and restarted last year after being reassigned to a new judge.
