Tens of thousands of supporters of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva filled Rio de Janeiro's Copacabana beach on Saturday for one of the final rallies before Sunday's presidential run-off against Flávio Bolsonaro, The Guardian reports.
Nearly 159 million Brazilians are eligible to vote. Mr Bolsonaro, the son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, won the first round on 4 October by 47 per cent to 45 per cent, and polls now show the pair tied. No first-round loser has gone on to win since Brazil returned to democracy in the 1980s.
Supporters dressed in red described the race as a fight for democracy. Most analysts still see Mr Bolsonaro, who has campaigned on a hard line against violent crime, as a slight favourite, although Mr Lula, 80, appears to have gained ground in recent days.
