Six Flags says it will fit seatbelts to the Goliath rollercoaster at its Georgia park after a rider was killed earlier this month, The Guardian reports.
Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem, 42, was thrown from his seat on the ride, which drops riders 165ft and then 180ft, and struck other cars as he fell. Georgia authorities are investigating, and the company temporarily shut Goliath and eight rides at five other parks.
Chief executive John Reilly said seatbelts would also be added to other coasters with a similar lap-bar restraint, although which rides are affected is not yet clear. The company has commissioned an independent review of safety procedures across its attractions. Six Flags also faces a lawsuit from former riders who say they suffered brain injuries on the X2 ride at Magic Mountain.
