Uttar Pradesh's Chief Electoral Officer has removed five booth-level officers and a computer assistant from election duties after errors were found in the voter list in Azamgarh, The Hindu reports.
The action follows a complaint by the Samajwadi Party, which said on 15 October that a voter called Vikas Yadav was listed ten times in the Azamgarh constituency. An inquiry by the district election officer found the name 13 times. One entry belonged to a voter of the same name in Gorakhpur district, two were duplicates now being deleted, and the other 11 were different people whose details had been recorded wrongly.
Officials are correcting those entries. Notices have been issued over ending the six workers' services, and departmental action has been ordered against three senior registration officials.
