One person has been killed and four injured, among them a 12-year-old girl, after a man opened fire in Trappes, west of Paris, GB News reports.
The local mayor, Ali Rabeh, told the broadcaster BFMTV that the gunman shot from his car, apparently at random, and targeted several places including a children's playground. A suspect thought to live in a nearby town has been arrested and is in police custody. No motive has yet been established.
Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu said security forces and the judiciary had been fully mobilised, and that France's national anti-terrorism prosecutor was monitoring the case.
The shooting comes as France prepares for another weekend of protests, with the interior minister saying about 70,000 police and gendarmes will be deployed.
