Oxfam, Cancer Research UK and British Red Cross pay gap data show white staff paid less on average

·

Three of Britain's biggest charities have published ethnicity pay gap figures showing white employees earning less on average than colleagues from ethnic minority backgrounds, GB News reports, following a story in The Telegraph.

Oxfam's figures put the gap at 33 per cent, Cancer Research UK's at 7.6 per cent in 2025, and the British Red Cross reported ethnic minority staff earning 11.4 per cent more. The shadow culture minister, James Wild, and Reform UK's Suella Braverman criticised positive action schemes in response.

The charities said the figures did not mean unequal pay for the same work. Oxfam said only 70 per cent of staff disclosed their ethnicity and denied operating positive discrimination. Cancer Research UK said more white staff worked in lower-paid retail roles, and the Red Cross said its priority was paying people fairly.
