The Metropolitan Police will take no further action against Sarah Helm, the journalist and author married to the prime minister's national security adviser, Jonathan Powell, over a social media post about the banned group Palestine Action.
Ms Helm had written on X on Thursday that authors who back Palestine and Palestine Action needed help, in a discussion about the Irish novelist Sally Rooney. The Campaign Against Antisemitism had urged police to investigate.
On Saturday the Met said specialist officers had reviewed the post and concluded it did not meet the criminal threshold. Supporting Palestine Action has been a criminal offence since the group was proscribed in July 2025, carrying a maximum sentence of 14 years. The government said Ms Helm's views were her own and that she does not represent it in any role, according to The Guardian.
