Norwegian telecoms company Telenor has appealed against a district court decision allowing a group lawsuit by more than 1,200 of its former customers in Myanmar to go ahead, NRK reports.
The claimants say their personal data, including names, addresses, call records and locations, was passed to Myanmar's military junta, and some say they were later arrested, imprisoned or tortured. They are seeking 125 million kroner in total. Last month the Asker and Bærum district court ruled the case could proceed. Telenor argues there is no legal basis for a class action and has asked the court of appeal to review that question. SOMO, the Dutch organisation supporting the claimants, said the appeal would only harm Telenor's reputation further.
