President Donald Trump and Republican Senator Dan Sullivan told a campaign rally in Wasilla that the war with Iran is worth the higher fuel and food costs facing Americans, KTOO reports.
Trump called the cost a small price to pay for stopping Iran getting a nuclear weapon and predicted prices would fall when the war ends soon. KTOO notes that fuel prices have not fallen significantly over the past month, and that heating fuel in rural Alaska averaged $8 a gallon by August, up from $6.49 in January.
Sullivan, who has voted 14 times against War Powers resolutions, argued that more local oil and gas production was the answer to Alaska's energy costs. He faces Democrat Mary Peltola in a tight four-way Senate race; she has criticised the war and his support for it.
