A Nigerian federal minister has said federal, state and local government power will be combined to deliver sweeping victories for the ruling All Progressives Congress in Akwa Ibom State, Premium Times reports.
Ekperikpe Ekpo, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), made the remarks at a rally in Etim Ekpo local government area while presenting a party candidate for the state assembly. He predicted the party would win every seat and spoke of bringing together federal, state and local government might.
He did not explain what he meant or how this would be done, and the paper notes he did not explicitly threaten violence. Premium Times says the comments revive long-standing concerns in Nigeria about government power and public resources being used to sway elections ahead of the 2027 polls.
