Eleanor Olszewski, the only federal cabinet minister from Alberta, has said Ottawa is already in discussions with the province about immigration levels, a day before Albertans vote in a series of referendum questions.

Alongside the high-profile question on separation, about half of Monday's other questions concern immigration, including more provincial control over who settles in Alberta and priority access to public services for citizens and permanent residents. Speaking to CTV's Question Period, Olszewski described immigration as a shared jurisdiction and said talks covered levels and sustainability. Immigration Minister Lena Diab separately said federal plans already reflected much of what the questions propose, and that she was working with provinces and territories, CTV News reported.
